Tony & Mindy Winchester - Ceramic Artists
I love to facet, alter, assemble and add sculptural elements to my wheel thrown forms. I use cone 10 reduction stoneware for its durability and functionality; spraying contrasting glazes, seeking both depth and detail in color, and contrast of texture that will accentuate the sculptural aspects of my forms. I am always looking to express gesture, fluidity, and arrested motion: the essence of process. The process is my passion.
-Tony Winchester
Mindy's intricately applies colored slips to functional wares. Her work features equine art and landscapes.
Tony received his BFA in sculpture and ceramics from Bellevue College, a small school in Nebraska. His love of sculptural form finds its match in, as he puts it, "the emotional and gestural qualities of clay." The flowing qualities of ash glazes and matte glazes create a richness of surface which enhances the movement and mood of his work. In these wheel-thrown and altered stoneware pieces, colors create small landscapes, all different. He has worked as an independent studio potter since 1993. Winchester's work is lead free, oven and microwave safe.
Details: Winchester uses two approaches. Some of his work is standardized in a production line. Other pieces are one of a kind. Mugs, serving bowls and wall plates in several sizes, sculptural teapots and vases.
Tony Winchester's current work reflects his philosophy of pottery's 3 basic shapes: the cylinder, the sphere & the platter. By combining these 3 in differing proportions, Tony will come up with a wide variety of functional and sculptural forms.
