Ann Peterson Truemper

Born and raised in Wichita Falls, Texas, and now
residing in Grand Rapids, Michigan, graduated
in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from
Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  As a
non-traditional student in her forties, she found
her interest in art and took classes in painting,
printmaking, photography, drawing, collage, and
sculpture.  She found her passion for clay in her
first ceramics class

Ann’s fun and functional pottery is made with white low-fire clay, decorated with underglazes,
and then covered with a clear glaze.  Each
piece is fired three times in oxidation to a temperature of
1922
 Fahrenheit.

There is something about working with
clay that is like communion with a friend.
Every piece of pottery retains energy from
my hands that have molded it and guided it
through its journey toward a permanent form,
capable of giving energy back.
The clay that I form with hollow spaces,
energetic colors, and lines that dance is alive.
It is important to me that I make my pottery
using the most basic elements of nature and
what we achieve together is joyful, is positive,
and is a part of my soul.  I love to make
decorative and functional pottery that enhances everyday life and contributes
to the enjoyment of living and of preparing, serving,
and presenting food.  What makes my ceramic
pieces fun is what they do, not what they
 say.
